Coloring

Thanks to all the voted for us in the photo contest! Photo number one of the family on the beach won. Congrats to them! The blog owner did go through and approve all of the comments to be visible so I peeked at them and I was able to see a lot of the sweet comments you guys made when you voted. Thanks!!!

Did you figure out what song Gabriella had been listening to in that last post? I thought she was pretty creative to pull that whole little scenario out of the song "London Bridges."

Second children are a whole different species. It seems, at least in our house, that the second child gets to participate in "big kid"activities much earlier. One of the things that Juliana loves to do is color with crayons. We introduced crayons to Gabriella super early, but she wasn't very interested for quite a long time so they went on the back burner... or rather, the back drawer. Juliana, however, sees her big sister drawing every day and wants in on the action. Juliana LOVES to color. She has a pretty amazing attention span for it. She can easily color for 20 minutes. She gathers up handfuls of crayons and periodically switches which one she is using. We have a huge pad of newsprint and the girls can color on the floor together... with only the occasional squabble over a particular color or a "my sister is sitting on top of my drawing" complaint. The one catch is that our littlest artist still occasionally decides to taste a crayon so she has to be watched carefully.

What could be more warming to this art teacher mama's heart?

What a cute little artist! I think you're right about second children. Ethan barely looks at "his" baby toys and seems rather unhappy to be given a baby puzzle when Grace has one that is clearly different. He also got in on the coloring action earlier then Grace. I think having an older sibling to watch and imitate changes things a lot. Instead of wondering what on earth you're supposed to do with a crayon a paper they've seen their older sister color and know EXACTLY what it's for. Not only that but they don't want to be left out!
