6

Recently I've been getting a lot of flack from my friends and co-workers about all my pants being way too big for me. The other day I put on a pair of jeans, added the one belt I own and cinched it to the tightest setting. The belt only served to weigh the jeans down. They were still quite literally falling off my backside. I realized that the coworkers might just have a point. The combination of losing weight due to morning sickness in early pregnancy, not gaining much during pregnancy, breastfeeding a chunky monkey and going on an elimination diet (because of suspected allergies/intolerances, under a doctors supervision. I have not been actively trying to lose any weight) has all added up to some serious down sizing. Tonight I bit the bullet and drug Jonathan to Nordstrom Rack to see if I could find a pair of jeans to wear to work without shaming myself. I haven't bought jeans in ages so I had no idea what I was looking for and felt extremely dorky for not even recognizing half the brands. I did know that the words "super low rise" were to be avoided at all costs. On the other hand... do you remember the "mom jeans" SNL skit? Enough said. I randomly grabbed a zillion pairs off the rack and did lightening round jean eliminations in the dressing room while I mentally hedged bets on whose patience would give out first... Jonathan's or Gabriella's. I tried on eights and I was pretty happy that those seemed to fit. Then, I realized that they were still actually pretty darn loose. I could easily pull them off without unbuttoning. So I bravely headed out and grabbed some sixes. Sure enough, those fit much better. It has been awhile since I have worn a size 6 in jeans. (By "awhile" I mean junior high... maybe begining of freshman year of high school.) I ended up with a $98 pair of Calvin Klein jeans for $28. Now I just need to drill a new hole in that belt for all the other days of the week...

Congrats on the new jeans! I had the same problem with pants (and yes I'm also wearing jeans that are too big with a belt on the last hole) and bought two new pairs of jeans with my birthday money in my new "back to pre-children" size. I even did a little celebration dance in the dressing room!
