On Monday it was finally time to give her her first bites of solid food. Unfortunately, she didn't get her sister's graham crackers like she wanted and she had to settle for a taste of sweet potato. I decided against cereal as her first food because a.) it is a manufactured product and many brands contain soy and other ingredients that she may be allergic/sensitive to and b.) it isn't super nutritious. I could make my own rice cereal with organic brown rice... but mashing up a sweet potato with a little breast milk is so much easier.
In goes the first bite...

Hmmmm...

You know, I'd much rather just feed myself...

This stuff is really fun to squish...

She got maybe a couple spoonfuls down. We tried again today and she ate a little bit more. She is most definitely more independent than Gabriella. She wanted to have the spoon and do it herself whereas Gabriella would've let me feed her at a year old (heck, Gabriella might still let me feed her.)
ps- If you want to be technical about it, Juliana's FIRST bite of solids was a paper napkin she grabbed off a table at a restaurant. I'm pretty sure she ate a bit before I could fish all the pieces out of her mouth.

We did sweet potatoes for Ethan's first foods as well, cereals are just so binding and not as nutritious. Looks like she liked them and had a good time feeding herself! If she does manage to feed herself it will make life easier for you. I'm glad Ethan has finally graduated to some finger foods so I can eat with the kids at the same time :)
